Mutina is a project born thirty years ago in the ceramics district of Fiorano, in the province of Modena, as a mirror of the best Made in Italy.
The name of the company derives from the city of origin, Modena, in Latin, in fact, Mutina. Starting from the affirmations of Bruno Munari, one of the fathers of Italian design and the ten commandments of good design by Dieter Rams, without forgetting the motto of Mies van der Rohe: "Less is more", Mutina is today an excellence of our country that aims at innovation and the choice of high level partners. The year 2006 marks the brand's turning point, as a new way of looking at ceramics no longer as a pure wall covering, but as a designer project, where the use of the material becomes an integral part of interior design. We begin to use ceramics by combining technology and handmade, in order to overcome the limits of the material by seeking the high quality of the product, achieved through the use of a color palette ranging from white to black, welcoming precious shades of gray, ivory, ecru and a range of natural shades.
There are many sizes of the lines in production, from the largest 100x300 to the smallest 0. 9x0. 9 mosaic, divided into floor, wall and mosaic products, all of which can be coordinated with each other.
If today the real creativity lies in being able to remix different experiences and styles, in the case of Mutina the association of materials of different origins and the fusion of tradition and innovation represent the philosophy and the main value of the project. A project whose contamination capacity is expanding internationally, in those markets where Mutina is present.

The search for quality in Mutina ceramics

Mutina is synonymous with continuous research: in the company, artisan and industrial processes are continuously tested, the result of the most advanced technologies, choosing the most suitable to produce ceramic wall and floor tiles, in order to dress the architecture like a second skin.
For this reason, Mutina ceramics become a favourite material for public and private spaces, from contemporary domestic interiors to designer hotels, fashion showrooms, trendy restaurants, prestigious universities (Luigi Bocconi) and great temples of art (Tate Modern), covering a geographical area ranging from Europe to the East to the Atlantic.
The collections of floor and wall coverings are flanked by interior design creations that see ceramics applied to partitions, furnishings and accessories, designed by the same designers who signed for Mutina.

Mutina and the return to cementine with the Azulej collection

We can say that Azulej designed by Patricia Urquiola is undoubtedly the collection that has marked a return to geometric shapes, patterns, a reinterpretation of old cement factories. The name is reminiscent of the Portuguese azulejos and this is a new, material, innovative and neutral and natural colours, which characterize the company's logic. In white, grey or black, you'll be spoilt for choice between solid-coloured backgrounds, single, repeatable patterns or a combination of 27 different patterns.
Almost infinite combinations, for a tile that is once again versatile and customizable.

Mutina: prizes and collaborations

Mutina is an editor: it personally chooses the authors who sign its collections, who collaborate on the three-dimensional translation of the original idea, providing all the necessary advice and exploring new areas of research on materials.
The collection signatures include the names of the world's greatest and most award-winning designers: Patricia Urquiola, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, Rodolfo Dordoni, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Tokujin Yoshioka, Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay of Raw Edges, Konstantin Grcic, Inga Sempè are the heart of the Mutina team, a close-knit team that works sharing the same passions as art, design and architecture.
Mutina's path has been internationally recognized with numerous awards for innovation and creativity.
